- 2 cups 250g all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup 50g granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup 115g cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup 120ml whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup 130g chocolate chips
- Extra milk for brushing
For the Fresh Cream:
- 1 cup 240ml heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Alternatives & Extras: Use clotted cream or canned squirty cream for convenience. You can also add Nutella or melted chocolate for extra indulgence.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in the butter – Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to rub the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Combine wet ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla extract, and egg.
Form the dough – Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry, mixing until just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
Shape the scones – Lightly flour a surface and roll out the dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out scones and place them on the baking sheet.
